Mercedes-Benz will change the way it designates its vehicles

Mercedes-Benz will introduce changes in the way it names each of its models.

Have you ever gotten confused by the whole tangle of letters and designations of the Mercedes-Benz lineup? Well, now you’ll be even more confused, since the company of the star has decided to make some changes to the codes that designate each of its models.

The basic premise is that SUVs will be named as G, sports cars and saloons as SL, and coupés and convertibles as C. From there the problem is that the moment comes when using three letters becomes complicated; so, for the new A-Class and B-Class, the name CLA has been reserved for the coupé versions (although CLB could also be used).

But it gets even more complicated: the new CL models, based on the S-Class, will not be called CLS, but will carry their most recent designation of SLC. And what about the AMG models? That’s where I’m completely lost… but when it’s time to rename the SUVs, things are even worse: for the R-Class, GL and G-Class, there are no links to other models that would allow them to be designated accordingly.

So if you already didn’t quite understand how the naming worked for the Mercedes models, now you’ll have it even worse. Let’s hope Mercedes soon sorts this out a bit.
