Mercedes Clase A Sedán: This is the most aerodynamic saloon in the world

Mercedes has just revealed that the upcoming Clase A Sedán is the most aerodynamic vehicle in the world, and it will be officially presented at the end of 2018.

The car world is starting to encompass more and more segments, where within those same segments vehicles derived from others emerge. The Mercedes Clase A Sedán arrives as an alternative to the compact it is based on, since it offers the same components but with more interior space. However, today we are not going to talk about its dimensions or its advantages and disadvantages compared with the conventional compact, but about its aerodynamics. This latest creation from the star brand has been awarded as the most aerodynamic vehicle in the world, and today we are going to tell you the reasons why.

Designing a new car is never easy, since this process involves numerous necessary stages to develop a product that meets the basic safety standards. Within this process, aerodynamics is of vital importance, a discipline responsible for tackling the wind and helping our vehicle stay glued to the road.

At first glance, we do not notice major differences between the features of the Mercedes Clase A Sedán and the compact Clase A, but there are some. The engineers at the German firm have worked to modify various details so that the new bodywork of their flagship compact is more efficient on the road. To this end, they have carried out various changes to the main components that help to tackle the wind.

The front end has been lowered somewhat, which also brings a slight improvement in comfort inside the cabin of the future Clase A Sedán. On the other hand, the extra length this new bodywork adds over the German compact has also been a beneficial factor for its aerodynamics. The underbody of this new model has also been revised with the aim of improving its overall behaviour, but Mercedes wanted to go further.

The front and rear bumpers have also been appropriately modified to channel the air more efficiently. With this premise, the engineers have ensured that the new design of the splitter and diffuser directs the air around the wheels, with the aim of offering greater comfort on the road and preventing the wind from getting in the way of our trajectory.

It will be at the end of this year that Mercedes presents the new Clase A Sedán to the world, which is intended to enter the market as a direct rival to the Audi A3 Sedán and other similar models. Meanwhile, the German firm has let us know that its new creation has been crowned the most aerodynamic vehicle, a title that other star models have also held.
