MG 4: an update launched in China that will reach Spain in 2026

The MG 4 has become one of the best-selling compact electric cars in Spain, and we now know that an update to the model has just been launched in China, arriving in the European market in a few months and, of course, in Spain. The new MG 4 is ready for its launch in China, as its official presentation will take place on 5 August. Once launched in China, the process of reaching Europe will begin, within a few months.

The new MG 4 has become a car with a rounder, smoother design. It has grown slightly in size, with a length of 4,395 millimetres, a width of 1,842 millimetres and a height of 1,551 millimetres. The wheelbase is 2,750 millimetres, which allows a pleasant and comfortable interior space for all occupants.

That said, the remaining features of the model are still shrouded in mystery. It will not be until the car’s presentation date that we learn what this renewed model has in store. However, there is one piece of information about the engine and battery that has come to light and that is quite interesting.

This new version is currently offered, in China, with a single 163 CV motor on the rear axle. This contrasts with the different options offered in Europe, where there is a range between 170 and 435 CV depending on the configuration chosen. This does not mean that in Europe we will only have this option, since it is true that the model has not been very successful in China and the offer has been fairly limited.

The top speed with this motor is limited to 160 km/h, which is not bad. The battery fitted to this version is LFP technology supplied by Rept Battery Energy, although its capacity and the range it offers the model are not known. In the Spanish market, the largest battery offers a range of up to 530 kilometres, so it is possible that this one offers something similar.

This information is not particularly surprising, but the brand mentions something very interesting. Within a while, this model will have a semi-solid-state battery. This type of battery allows for 14% more capacity, which will be noticeable in the range.

More technological interior

Another of the most interesting details the MG 4 will offer is the Oppo technology incorporated into its equipment. The new interface of the infotainment system allows mirroring of the smartphone‘s screen, with voice control and gesture navigation. This will make it possible to dispense with connected services and use those of the mobile phone instead.

The comfort in the cabin has been increased, and rear legroom has been enlarged, making it more comfortable for travelling. In addition, the brand has said that both the front and rear seats are ventilated and heated.
