Mil-Spec Automotive is back with another build on the Hummer H1
Mil-Spec Automotive is back with a new and spectacular build on the Hummer H1, this time using a fully restored 1996 unit

The Hummer was hugely popular in the 1990s and mid-2000s, coveted as one of the most beastly off-roaders on the market but also resented for the problems it caused, mainly because of its enormous dimensions and power output that was not really in keeping with those disproportionate dimensions. When AM General ended production of the Hummer, VLF Automotive took up the baton, thus serving the many fans of this vehicle.
In this way, the Hummer H1 remains available and, consequently, tuners continue to have a vehicle that makes an excellent base for letting their imagination and creativity run free, as is the case with Mil-Spec Automotive. The American tuner, based in Detroit, specialises in restoring and preparing both the civilian and military versions, and has already surprised us with several builds that began with number 001 and now reaches the one we are showing you today, which is number 006.

The new 006 build used as its guinea pig a 1996 Hummer H1 that has been completely disassembled, cleaned up and reassembled to much stricter quality standards than the original factory ones. This build mainly affects its exterior and the most important mechanical components, but inside the floor has also been reworked and the way it was built at the factory has been removed and replaced with welded aluminium, which reduces weight and improves soundproofing; a sports steering wheel signed by Momo has also been fitted and the upholstery is now two-tone leather.
On the outside, the paint stands out in particular: Deep Sky Black textured, with gloss black detailing on the bodywork, which gives it a more fearsome look. A polyurethane coating with Kevlar has been sprayed over it to make its paint much more durable against possible scratches or scuffs. To offer even more protection, bars acting as protective bumpers have been fitted at the front and, more discreetly, at the rear, along with a new aluminium snorkel and a huge LED light bar above the windscreen that will turn night into day.

Mechanically, the Hummer H1 006 from Mil-Spec has also opted to turn to General Motors to fit the 6,600 cc Duramax turbodiesel V8, which delivers 500 CV and a massive torque figure of 1,355 Nm, paired with a six-speed Allison automatic gearbox, plus a transfer case and several settings for the differential lock. All this power and weight will be brought to a halt thanks to Wilwood brakes with slotted and drilled brake discs, as well as an Air-Ride suspension that allows its height to be adjusted to suit our needs.
The Hummer H1 006 from Mil-Spec Automotive can now be ordered, but such mechanical and aesthetic display will not be within everyone’s reach, since its price climbs to 295,039 dollars.
