MINI Cooper SD; the most powerful of the diesels

MINI adds a new option to its range of turbodiesel engines. It is the Cooper SD, the top of the diesel range.
It arrives to complete the diesel offering, becoming the alternative to the Cooper S. A slightly higher price than the Cooper S is expected, although we will have to wait to confirm it.
The Cooper SD is fitted with a two-litre, four-cylinder engine, which, thanks to Twin-Power Turbo technology, produces 170 CV. Above all, the torque figure stands out, 360 NM, which gives an idea of how easy it is to drive one of the most powerful city cars available today.

Performance, given the power level, is very impressive. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds (7.2 seconds with the Steptronic automatic gearbox). With this engine, overtaking and mid-range acceleration are effortless, making it one of the most agile vehicles on the road.
Despite this level of power and performance, consumption is very moderate: in the combined cycle, it is officially rated at just 4 litres. With the automatic gearbox, the figure is 4.1 litres. This represents a saving of 1.5 litres compared with its petrol counterpart.
Externally, the Cooper SD is identical to the Cooper S, so it also features the air intake on the bonnet, the specific bumpers and the centred twin exhaust outlets.

The British brand has also launched the entry-level step of the range. This is the One First, powered by a small 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine. It produces 75 CV and 150 NM, and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.8 seconds. Its average consumption is officially rated at 5.0 litres for the manual version, and 5.1 litres for the automatic version.
