MINI takes the electric Cooper and Aceman in their John Cooper Works version to the Paris Motor Show

The fully electric MINI Cooper and Aceman will get a John Cooper Works sporty version, which is being presented at the Paris Motor Show

It’s a hectic week with the opening of the doors of the Paris Motor Show, where many brands are gathering and bringing interesting new models. In the case we will discuss below, MINI is the star, as they will also bring the sporting legacy of the John Cooper Works versions to the new electric models in their range, such as the three-door Cooper and the Aceman.

The new electric MINI Cooper has already been among us for a while, and later, this very year, the Aceman was presented during the Beijing Motor Show. Thanks to a slightly greater length, we could say it is a Cooper that has been to the gym and, on the way, visited the stylist. We knew MINI was working to give both electric models a John Cooper Works sporty version, especially the Cooper, since we already got to see it with a peculiar camouflage and running during the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Now, on the occasion of the Paris Motor Show, the public can see both models in all their glory. Despite being electric, they feature the typical exterior traits of any combustion John Cooper Works. At the front, the JCW logo in red, white and black, evoking a checkered flag, adorns the octagonal front grille painted in high-gloss black. This logo will also be present as a projection from the wing mirrors each time we open the door to access the interior.

Other elements enhance the sporty image of both models, such as the daytime running lights of the LED headlights with horizontal bars in JCW Signature mode, as well as the black side skirts, the aeroblades located at the height of the C-pillar, or the elongated rear spoiler, while the rear diffuser gives a sense of greater width characteristic of sports cars. Both models can be chosen with a contrasting roof in Chili Red or a specific John Cooper Works multi-tone roof with a red and black gradient. The wheels, with a design specific to the JCW version, will be 18 inches for the Cooper and 19 inches for the Aceman.

In the cabin of the MINI JCW and the JCW Aceman, we find a sporty atmosphere thanks to the decoration in JCW’s characteristic colours, with red and black especially present on the woven dashboard surface, as well as specific graphics that illuminate the roof when the ambient lighting is activated. It is worth noting that this lighting and atmosphere can be personalised through the new MINI Experience Modes found on the 240 mm diameter OLED screen, which also displays the most relevant data and allows interaction with functions such as climate control, phone or navigation, among others.

As for the mechanical side, both models meet expectations, mounting an electric motorisation that, in the John Cooper Works version, delivers a power of 258 CV together with a torque of 350 Nm. These figures allow the MINI JCW to accelerate to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, while the MINI JCW Aceman will be a bit slower, accelerating to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds. Note that by pulling the paddle behind the steering wheel, we can activate Kart mode, which provides 20 kW of additional power on demand for acceleration or overtaking.

Like any John Cooper Works model, this power increase is also supported by specific suspension settings that allow both models to move more nimbly. In addition, the power is transferred to the road through standard-fit high-performance tyres, and when it comes time to brake, a Chili Red braking system with the JCW logo in white ensures effective stopping. That said, at maximum demand it will be interesting to see how this braking system behaves, since, for example, the discs are neither drilled nor grooved to withstand high temperatures.
