Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV 2016: more efficiency and greater range

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is one of the most efficient 4x4s on the market today. It is a plug-in hybrid that combines a 2.0-litre petrol combustion engine producing 121 CV and 190 Nm of torque with two electric motors generating 82 CV and 137 Nm sent directly to both axles. This hybrid setup allows the Japanese crossover to achieve a total range of 880 kilometres, while the real-world electric-only range reaches 60.2 kilometres.
The MY2016 facelift of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV 2016 has just been presented in Japan. This renewal will keep the Outlander up to date for the rest of the product’s lifecycle, ahead of a full redesign with a new generation. Facelifts of this kind usually bring few, subtle changes to the vehicle’s design and, in this case, the Asian manufacturer has added a set of custom decals, chrome details at the front and rear, and optional 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels.

Once inside the cabin, the Outlander PHEV features a new upholstery design and materials, a redesigned four-spoke steering wheel, and brown leather upholstery exclusive to the G Premium pack. The instrument cluster, the seats and the door panels feature visible white stitching, while the centre console, the dashboard details and the door panels incorporate inserts in original high-gloss black lacquer from traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
The improvements to the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV’s plug-in hybrid system are minor, but they help optimise potential faults and lay the groundwork for the development of the next generation. Fuel consumption has improved to 4.95 litres per 100 km, while the all-electric range increases by 0.6 km, to 60.8 kilometres. At first glance the improvement may seem small, but it is a genuine update.
Furthermore, alongside its launch on 9 July in Japan and a little later in the other markets, Mitsubishi will offer a improved throttle response, and has added a safety kit that includes the Multi-around View Monitor and a lane departure system, which can mitigate impact damage by controlling speed when the driver accidentally presses the accelerator pedal.
