Morgan resurrects the Aero for Geneva

This new version of the sports car is based on the previous GT3 Aero and will enjoy an extended production run. It features a V8 BMW engine producing 390 CV of power.

The small British sports car manufacturer will have a new reveal at the next edition of the Swiss show. As is the case with more conventional models, this is a fairly thorough update of an earlier product, the AeroMax. Its name has been shortened to Aero and it will have two missions.

The first will be to continue the legacy of that quirky coupé presented six years ago, also in Geneva, and the second will be to fill the gap left by the delay of the EvaGT. Unlike the AeroMax, its production will not be limited, so interested buyers can save at a more relaxed pace until they have enough to purchase this beast.

If the Aero looks quite similar to the AeroMax, that is no coincidence, since its foundation is the design of the earlier model. However, its base is not the road model but the one from the competition GT3 Aero. Hence it has different details such as rear lights and wheels. Its body and chassis are aluminium, so the scales are kept in check with a total weight of 1,175 kg.

Under the bonnet sits a 4.6 V8 block supplied by BMW, which generates up to 390 CV of power. According to Morgan, if paired with a manual gearbox the Aero’s acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is 4.5 seconds, while with an automatic it drops to 4.2. Its top speed is 273 km/h.

Alongside the Aero, Morgan will show other updates to the Roadster and Plus 8 in Geneva to bring them up to date. Fortunately, the brand’s DNA is to stay retro to the very end, because maintaining that style for more than 75 years may not sit well with other brands. Once the EvaGT arrives, Morgan will have found the ideal balance for a stagnant range.
