According to the website Wordlcarfans, a source of unknown identity has contacted them to reveal new details about the upcoming 918 Spyder. Let’s see what the anonymous insider has to say.

The 918 Spyder will be offered in four colours: Carrara white, black, silver and basalt black. There is no choice for the interior, which will be black. A limited palette, which Porsche will likely expand on.

As is already known, the powertrain driving the vehicle will be a V8 petrol engine, with a displacement of over 4 litres and an output of more than 500 CV. It will be aided by two electric motors that will develop a combined output of at least 218 CV. All this power will be handled by a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic gearbox, with which the 918 will reach 100 km/h from a standstill in less than 3.1 seconds.

There will be four driving modes, selectable with a control on the steering wheel: E-Power, Hybrid, Sport Hybrid and Race Hybrid. With E-Power engaged, the energy will come from the electric motors. In this way, once the batteries are fully charged, the 918 is estimated to be able to travel more than 25 km using only electric power.

Hybrid mode is what we could call the “normal” one, the mode that will be used most of the time in everyday driving. It uses both the petrol and electric powertrain.

Hybrid Sport is designed for when you are driving at a spirited pace on winding roads. In this mode the powertrain is configured to deliver high performance by sending most of the force to the rear axle.

Finally, we have Hybrid Sport. Here there are no restrictions whatsoever: the car gives everything it has. All the power of its engines will be available to the driver. This mode is designed for the track, to reach the vehicle’s limits.

On the other hand, the 918 Spyder will have independent suspension with superimposed wishbones complemented by the PASM (electronic suspension management) and PTV Plus (torque vectoring between the rear wheels) systems. It will enter production in September 2013 with a starting price of €645,000 (before taxes) for the European market.
