New Mazda MX-5: this is how impressive its fastest lap around the Nürburgring is
Thanks to this video, we can see how the new Mazda MX-5 with 184 CV takes on the Nürburgring, stopping the stopwatch at 8:38 minutes.

If we say that the Mazda MX-5 is one of the best sports cars of all time, we surely wouldn’t be lying; but if we tell you that the new version has improved a lot, would you believe us? As a picture — in this case a video — is worth a thousand words, here is the proof that the update to the Japanese sports car has done it a great deal of good. It was a few months ago when Mazda announced that one of its favourite models was about to receive a mechanical and dynamic upgrade, which would enhance its performance, something we can see reflected in this fastest lap around the Nürburgring circuit.
We have already had the chance to test the Mazda MX-5 in its RF version, but now this more powerful and radical variant arrives , ready to raise the Japanese car’s sportiness one more step. This is what this young Frenchman wanted to show us: he decided to take his MX-5 on the very inferno of the Green Hell, one of the best circuits in the world, to test both your driving skills and your vehicle.
Although this lap was not completed by Mazda’s official team, we can see that the young driver knows what he is doing when it comes to driving at full speed. Thanks to the weight distribution and the increase in power, the MX-5 presents itself not only as a vehicle suited to tackling winding roads, but also all kinds of circuits.

Its naturally aspirated engine will force us to play with — and enjoy — the gear changes and their delicious feel a great deal, but this is not a problem for the author of the video, who seems to know both the Japanese sports car and the Nordschleife circuit layout in great detail. But it is not only the driver’s hands that make this video a clear example of good driving; it is also the new fine-tuning the MX-5 has undergone.
Until not long ago, the Mazda sports car was offered with a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine capable of producing up to 160 CV in its most radical variant. Now, the company’s engineers have decided to give their flagship model a higher level of power, which is capable of delivering 184 CV and 205 Nm of torque. This subtle but important improvement will allow feats like the one we see in the video to be achieved, provided that the driver has a level of skill up to the demands of the Nürburgring.

8:38 minutes is the time it takes this sensational driver to complete the German circuit aboard his Mazda MX-5, which has shown exemplary behaviour. Along with some correction to prevent the rear of the Japanese sports car from overtaking the front, we are presented with a video that demonstrates not only the character of the Nürburgring, but also the level of fun the Mazda MX-5 is capable of delivering.
