New Opel Astra, more compact and more aerodynamic

For several weeks we have been receiving small previews of what the new generation of the Opel Astra will be, but today we are going to focus on the aerodynamic aspect. This is one of those changes that will make this new Astra once again a benchmark for a new generation of drivers. Bear in mind that aerodynamics is one of the main arguments for further reducing fuel consumption, so it has been important for the designers to make it truly functional.
One of the main assets of the new Opel Astra is its size. It is somewhat more compact than its predecessor, with dimensions that are reduced by 2.5 centimetres in height. Its overall length has been reduced by almost 5 centimetres, to a total of 4.37 metres, and its width is 1.81 metres, 50 centimetres less. The frontal area is 0.642 square metres compared with the 0.7 square metres offered by the previous version.
It has also lost some thickness in the wheels, and special attention has been paid to the roof, the construction of the C-pillar, and the underside of the car. With all of this, the car achieves a drag coefficient of 0.285. Consumption is therefore improved, not only through the engine upgrade but also through the changes made to the bodywork.

The changes are fairly subtle. For example, the roof has been redesigned so that air reaches the rear and turbulence is avoided. The C-pillar has also been subtly modified so that it splits the airflow more efficiently than its predecessor, which also helps reduce this drag coefficient.
As for the underside, it has been designed to channel the airflow more efficiently, improving performance and adding an extra boost to the reduction of air resistance. With all of this, the new Opel Astra will meet the expectations placed upon it, making it a car for the 21st century.
