New Peugeot 508, renewed design

On the occasion of the Paris Motor Show, Peugeot presents the update to the 508. The changes are noticeable in the exterior design, but it also incorporates new engines and a new offering in the technology section.
The front features a newly designed grille that is more vertical, with the Peugeot lion integrated at its centre. The brand name appears at the top. The 508 introduces a brand identity that will be carried over to future models.
There are also changes at the rear, as the new bumpers increase its length by 38 mm for the saloon. The rear lights have been redesigned to suit the new rear end (on the saloon, the SW estate and the RXH crossover estate).
In the top-of-the-range versions, which come with more equipment, the light units (main headlights, daytime running lights, indicators and fog lights) are 100% LED of high technology. On the saloon and the SW the visual signature is a comma shape at the front, while on the RXH it takes the form of claws. This makes the presence of the new 508 stand out at first glance.

In the Access, Active and Allure trims, the 508 gets new halogen headlights, while the rest of the lights (daytime lights, indicators, position lights and fog lights) are fully LED.
The interior dimensions, already generous, remain unchanged. Passenger comfort is adequate and the boot capacity remains 545 litres in the saloon, 660 litres in the SW (estate) and 423 litres in the RXH HYbrid4.
The technology section features new elements. From the Active trim onwards, a 7-inch screen dominates the dashboard, from which most of the vehicle’s functions can be accessed. Below it, the direct-access buttons for navigation, climate control, radio and connectivity are retained, although the reduced number of buttons makes room for a new covered storage compartment.
Another of the gadgets to be found is the Head-Up Display, which shows the driver information in legible colours on a retractable smoked panel. The long equipment list also includes features such as keyless entry and start, automatic electric parking brake, electrochromic interior mirror, automatic high beam switching, low tyre pressure detection, front and rear parking assistance, four-zone automatic climate control, and the JBL Hi-Fi audio system.

To all this equipment, two further new features are added: the blind spot control, visible in the rear-view mirror, and the reversing camera, whose image is displayed in full colour on the central screen. The 508 can therefore be adapted to the tastes and preferences of any future owner.
In addition, the new Peugeot 508 offers enhanced connectivity based on mobile internet technology, the Peugeot Connect Apps. Nearby available parking spaces, fuel prices at the closest petrol stations, traffic info, weather forecasts, tourist data from the Michelin Guide or TripAdvisor, and a calendar, plus the Coyote app (available depending on the country), are some of the applications available in this section.
The 3G Plug & Play key that activates Peugeot Connect Apps connects to the USB port located in the glovebox of the Peugeot 508. This optional service, currently being rolled out, will be available in thirteen European countries through an annual subscription.
There is news regarding engines. A petrol and a diesel engine are added to the existing ones. The entry-level petrol engine is the 1.6 VTi 120 CV which complies with Euro5 regulations, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. The new 1.6 THP 165 CV with Stop & Start system is available with either a six-speed manual gearbox or the new six-speed EAT6 automatic gearbox. It complies with Euro6 regulations and replaces the previous 1.6 THP 155 CV.

The diesel range starts with the 1.6 e-HDi 115 CV, which can be paired with a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automated gearbox. It is followed by a 2.0 HDi 140 CV paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. The BlueHDi technology is represented by two engines. The first is the 2.0 BlueHDi BVM6 150 CV, and the second is the new 2.0 BlueHDi 180 CV version paired with the six-speed EAT6 automatic gearbox.
