The 997 series first appeared before the public in 2005. The versions that Porsche has released of this model are almost endless: Carrera, Carrera S, Targa, Cabriolet, Turbo, GT2, GT3, etc. But everything comes to an end, and to commemorate it, what better way than to create a special edition: the 911 Carrera GTS. .

Indeed, the Carrera GTS is the last edition of the current 997 series and, moreover, according to Porsche it is the most balanced of all, because it retains the ability to be used daily like any other Carrera, but with improved performance and sporting capabilities.

The engine is the same as the Carrera S’s – 6-cylinder boxer, 3.8 litres displacement, direct injection – but with 408 CV (23 CV more than the Carrera S) and 420 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm (200 rpm earlier than the Carrera S). The gearbox can be a 6-speed manual (standard) or a 7-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic (€4,000 extra). Drive is always to the rear wheels.

Performance differs depending on the type of transmission. With the manual gearbox, the top speed is 306 km/h and the 0-100 km/h acceleration takes 4.6 seconds. If you opt for the PDK gearbox with the Sport Chrono Package Plus, the 0-100 km/h takes just 4.2 seconds. Despite the improved performance, consumption remains at the same levels as the Carrera S: 10.2 litres/100 km, equivalent to 240 g of CO2/km.

The GTS has a rear track 44 mm wider than the Carrera S, this being the difference with the greatest visual and dynamic effect, since this increase will help improve the vehicle’s sporting behaviour. Other changes are found in the exhaust pipe outlets and in a new tuning of these to produce “a unique sound” in the words of Porsche.

The alloy wheels are 19″, painted black, and fitted with 235/35 ZR19 tyres at the front and 305/35 ZR19 at the rear. The area of the rear bumper between the exhaust pipes is painted black, and the “Carrera GTS” logos are distributed across the doors and the bonnet.

The interior is trimmed in black, with Alcantara in some parts of the sport seats, as well as on the steering wheel, gear lever and handbrake.

Finally, the prices. The Coupé version will be available from €118,244 and the Cabriolet from €129,527. It is approximately €7,000 more expensive than the Carrera S and will go on sale in December 2010. It will be presented at the Paris Motor Show.
