New Skoda Fabia 2018: restyling and goodbye to diesel
The new Skoda Fabia will reach the market in mid-year, and it will do so with a range of three-cylinder, one-litre petrol engines.
The new Skoda Fabia is just around the corner. The Czech city car will be unveiled next March at the Geneva Motor Show, where it will show the latest restyling of its third generation. Its market launch will take place in the second half of 2018. The new Fabia will be built on the PQ26 platform of the VAG Group, a slightly less modern base than the MQB A0 enjoyed by its cousins, the Seat Ibiza and the Volkswagen Polo. For the first time, the Skoda Fabia will not offer a diesel engine in its range; instead, it will use three-cylinder, one-litre petrol engines.
Design renewal
The vehicle produced by the Czech manufacturer will now enjoy greater appeal thanks to its redesigned front and rear sections, the introduction of LED headlights and taillights, and a more refined interior. The facelift is discreet, but noticeable and, in our opinion, necessary.
Three-cylinder petrol engines
For the first time, the Skoda Fabia does not offer a diesel engine among its options. The engine range consists of four petrol engines, all of them three-cylinder with a displacement of 1.0 litre. The first two are naturally aspirated, direct-injection units delivering 60 CV and 75 CV respectively. The remaining two are turbocharged TSI direct-injection units with outputs of 95 CV and 110 CV respectively. The most powerful of the four (1.0 TSI 110 CV) can optionally be combined with a seven-speed DSG gearbox.

New driver assistance systems
The new Skoda Fabia incorporates some of the latest preventive safety systems. Among them is Blind Spot Detection, which warns the driver of vehicles in their blind spot or approaching quickly from behind on multi-lane motorways. The city car also features a Rear Traffic Alert system, which monitors what happens behind the vehicle and warns of collision risks when reversing. Finally, the car offers a Light Assist, which automatically activates the dipped headlights when the system detects vehicles travelling in the opposite direction or ahead.

Infotainment system with 6.5-inch screen
The new Fabia incorporates the “Swing” infotainment system, a device that now offers a 6.5-inch screen and also allows drivers to use the full range of ŠKODA Connect online mobile services. If the car is equipped with the “Admundsen” navigation system, it also offers the Online Traffic Information service, with real-time information on traffic jams. In addition, SmartLink+ technology allows the vehicle to enjoy all the benefits of Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, MirrorLinkTM and SmartGate.
