New Suzuki Jimny: now more capable on tarmac thanks to this suspension kit

The new Suzuki Jimny doesn’t offer its best version on the road, but thanks to the H&R suspension kit you could consider driving it in urban areas on a regular basis.

In the short time it has been on the market, the new Suzuki Jimny has already received several customisation packages that modify its look, but the one we are going to show you today goes beyond design. The new Suzuki Jimny is one of the few pure off-roaders left on the market: its compact dimensions, its ladder-type frame with cross members (one of the few in its class that still uses this type of chassis) and its rigid suspension on both axles make it a vehicle designed entirely for driving off the asphalt. On the other hand, the car does not offer its best version on the road; in fact, it is quite uncomfortable to drive on tarmac in its standard form. Nevertheless, the shock absorber specialist H&R has launched a partial solution to this problem: a suspension kit that improves the on-road behaviour of the new Jimny.

Suspension that lowers the car’s centre of gravity

Suzuki Jimny (standard version)

This suspension kit consists of springs that lower the suspension height by 45 mm, which brings the car’s body closer to the ground and therefore reduces body roll in corners. Although this is not its main function, H&R’s shock absorbers give the Jimny a distinctive look, which in this build also receives a camouflage body wrap, a LED light bar on the roof and some special headlights with a “smoked” effect.

Anti-roll bars and stabilisers to reduce body roll

Among H&R’s upgrade package there are also anti-roll bars from the brand Koni, which bring significant improvements to the car’s handling on tarmac, or at least that is what the shock absorber company claims.

To reduce body roll on the new Jimny even further on the road, H&R recommends fitting adjustable 30 mm stabiliser bars on both the front and rear axles. In addition, the company is working on wheel spacers to further improve the Jimny’s composure on the road, but these are not yet available with this kit.

Are these upgrades worth it?

The new Suzuki Jimny is a unique model, with a affordable price (from 17,000 euros), a striking design and off-road capabilities with no rivals in its segment. But if you are thinking of buying a Jimny for extensive use on tarmac, you should seriously consider making certain changes to the chassis, and this H&R kit is a very interesting solution.
