New Toyota Prius 2023: a deep overhaul for the popular Japanese hybrid
The fifth generation of the Toyota Prius has just arrived, debuting a completely new design, technology features and a new propulsion system

With a history stretching back almost 20 years, the Toyota Prius has become one of the reference and pioneering models when it comes to hybrid vehicles. Now, with its major overhaul set to arrive next year, the Toyota Prius 2023 comes with a much more attractive and modern design, up-to-the-minute technology and a mechanical range with major new features.
In recent months there had been speculation that this overhaul would introduce hydrogen technologies, but as the brand itself has confirmed, the new Toyota Prius will only be offered with plug-in hybrid technology as an option, a technology that is well proven both on this model and across the brand.
Fully redesigned
Starting with its design, the new Toyota Prius has received a truly noticeable aesthetic update, with very smooth, aerodynamic lines and the sloping body shape the model has always been proud of.

From the front, the new Prius features headlights with LED technology that give it a very aggressive look, a bumper with a lower cooling intake framed by a silver-coloured trim, and a bonnet with two style ridges in a wedge shape.
Turning 90 degrees, the silhouette of the fifth-generation Prius presents a sportier image than its predecessor, with two-tone alloy wheels measuring 19 inches and a roofline that slopes down to the saloon’s rear.

The rear of the Prius is one of the most prominent parts of the whole, featuring horizontal LED taillights that emphasise the width of the model, the model name lettering on the tailgate and a sporty, youthful-looking bumper.
Up-to-the-minute technology
Inside, the 2023 Toyota Prius conveys a very high-tech atmosphere, with a large central touchscreen for the infotainment system and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. Along the dashboard and doors, the new Prius also features ambient lighting, giving its cabin a modern, fresh touch.
In the published images, the model’s roof stands out, as it is fitted with a large number of solar panels dedicated to powering the various electrical systems of the vehicle.

A new engine makes its debut
Turning to the propulsion system, the Prius will use a 2.0-litre engine producing 148 CV, combined with a 160 CV electric motor. Together, they deliver a combined output of 223 CV.
The electric motor is powered by a new 13.6 kWh lithium-ion battery that allows a maximum range of up to 75 kilometres in fully electric mode.
With all this, we will have to wait for the brand to give us more details such as its arrival date at dealerships, its price or its full equipment specification.
