Nissan is already preparing the successor to the 370Z: it could feature 400 CV and a V6 under the bonnet

Nissan already has a successor for the 370Z, due in 2021, and it will rely on a twin-turbo V6 engine capable of producing 400 CV of power.

Despite the conditions brought about by the coronavirus, the world must keep moving forward in every sense. The car industry continues to fight to keep its head held high, and Nissan is a clear example of this. The Japanese brand has just announced that it is pressing ahead with the development of one of its flagship products, the 370Z. The Z name has carried a strong legacy since its inception, and Nissan is ready to present a new offspring prepared to carry it.

The Nissan 370Z has been on the market since 2009, which has allowed it to compete for 11 years in this. Despite its timeless design and its good reception, the Japanese sports car is already starting to show its age against its main rivals, who have used the passing of time to undergo major updates.

But Nissan has said enough: it has put its fist on the table and is ready to break with everything established to date. The successor to the 370Z will become a reality despite the strict anti-pollution regulations that relentlessly lash car manufacturers, who are forced to turn to hybrid systems in order to homologate their models, but the Japanese brand has other plans for the 400Z.

Everything points to this being the name Nissan will use to christen its next sports car, one that will continue to rely on a V6 powerplant. The novelty? The Japanese model’s naturally aspirated configuration is over, in favour of a twin-turbo system capable of raising total output to 400 CV, a figure that could rise even further in the case of a possible Nismo variant.

With this premise, the successor to the 370Z will have to take on rivals in a way closer to models such as the Toyota Supra, the BMW Z4 or the Porsche 718 Cayman, three of its most direct competitors, which currently have the upper hand. Nevertheless, Nissan intends to play with a new design language and far more advanced technology to overcome these contenders.

Everything was planned for this so-called Nissan 400Z to hit the market throughout 2020, but given the context we are living through, it will be delayed until 2021. In this way, the Japanese firm is gathering momentum to once again go head-to-head with some of the most effective sports cars in the world in an effort to reclaim what was once its own.
