One in every eight vehicles sold globally by Mercedes-Benz in the second quarter was electric

Mercedes-Benz shows that its electric strategy is gaining ground in the main Western markets, although China remains a major challenge for the German brand.

Mercedes-Benz recorded solid progress in its transition to electric mobility during the second quarter of 2026. The company delivered 63 thousand fully electric vehicles worldwide, which represents an increase of 50 percent compared with the same period of 2025 and of 25 percent compared with the first quarter of 2026. Of these 63 thousand vehicles, 52,900 were passenger cars and 10,100 were vans.

Another important figure to note is that 13 percent of all passenger cars sold by the German manufacturer in the quarter were fully electric, more than five percentage points above the 7.7 percent recorded a year earlier. In Europe, the momentum was even stronger, with 43,500 vehicles with electric drive systems delivered from April 1 to the last day of June, an increase of 87 percent compared with the same period of the previous year, and a penetration rate of 26 percent -one in every four passenger cars-.

Looking at the overall figures, the group sold a total of 511,900 vehicles, including passenger cars and vans, an increase of 2 percent year on year. However, the passenger car segment showed a decline of 8 percent -417,800 units-, mainly caused by the Chinese market, where sales fell 30 percent to nearly 100 thousand units. In the first half of the year, China has accumulated a decline of 28 percent. Outside this country, sales grew 2 percent, driven by North America with 13 percent and Europe with 4 percent.
