One, the Hypercar from Mercedes AMG now has a name

It will be presented next week at the Mondial de l’Automobile in Paris, but its name has already been revealed. The Hypercar from Mercedes AMG will be called One

One is the name that Mercedes AMG has chosen for its new flagship model, a Hypercar whose final tuning has been carried out over recent months at various high-performance test centres and racing circuits in England.

The future top of the Mercedes range is completing its final tuning at the Mercedes and AMG facilities in Affalterbach, Brackley and Brixworth, where special attention is being paid to the development of its active aerodynamics, subjecting the various elements that make up the multi-stage extendable rear spoiler to rigorous performance tests. Its role is to provide and modulate aerodynamic downforce in all kinds of situations, especially at moments of maximum demand and performance.

By choosing One as the name for its new Hypercar, Mercedes AMG clearly aims to link the hybrid technology developed in its successful Formula 1 team with the hybrid technology being introduced in its new high-performance model, which will be its new flagship.

To showcase the work and processes being carried out in developing the new Hypercar, Mercedes has created a travelling exhibition space which, under the title “The future of driving performance”, will show the evolution and development of the Hypercar project. Among its contents, the exhibition includes a cabin that visitors can enter and sit in at the wheel of the future One’s cockpit, where they can also experience the different individual equipment options planned for the model (upholstery, colours, materials, comfort elements, accessories, …).

The Show-truck of the Mercedes AMG One will be available to receive visits from the brand’s customers shortly at the Mercedes Benz facilities in Munich, from where it will later travel to different cities in the various markets where Mercedes AMG is present.

The Hypercar, initially known as Project R50, is a hybrid-propulsion model that represents the first near-direct adaptation of the technology used in the power units of the Mercedes team’s Formula 1 single-seaters to a road car. As far as is known, the combustion engine will be a 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 which, once coupled to the electric motor, will form a powertrain capable of delivering between 1,000 and 1,500 CV of maximum power, of which the combustion engine will contribute 900 CV.

The Mercedes-AMG One will feature a “highly integrated and intelligently interconnected” powertrain, comprising a turbocharged hybrid combustion engine with a total of four electric motors. One of them is integrated into the turbocharger, another is installed directly on the combustion engine via a link to the sump, and the remaining two are located next to the front-axle wheels.

With the One, Mercedes AMG wants to offer a vehicle capable of delivering both maximum performance on the circuit and withstanding the demands of everyday use on the roads and city streets.

Although production volumes that Mercedes AMG plans for the Hypercar One are not yet known, what is known is that the first planned batch (around 200 to 300 units) is practically already sold out.
