Peugeot 308: Total redesign

Peugeot has just unveiled the new generation of its compact model, the 308. It is a total redesign aimed at competing with the heavyweights of its segment, combining strong selling points.
Built on the new modular EMP2 platform, it has shed up to 140 kg to become one of the lightest compacts on the market.
The new 308 knocks on the door loaded with novelties, starting with a clear, bold design, with much cleaner lines than its predecessor, which aim to convey a more aggressive image, in line with the brand’s guidelines. It debuts a full LED headlight system, a first in its segment.
The rear, however, is very reminiscent of its smaller sibling, the 208, from which it borrows the general shape of the taillights, achieving a sense of continuity across the range that brings greater uniformity. The rear becomes more compact and squared-off, leaving behind the protrusions and curves of previous generations.
For the interior, Peugeot has opted to follow a very concise principle: simplicity and clean lines. The 308 thus offers a very clear cockpit with few distractions, and practically free of physical buttons, following the path set by the 208. A large touchscreen dominates the dashboard and serves as the navigation system, onboard computer and climate control.

The instrumentation moves up a level, while the steering wheel has been reduced in size to gain driving comfort and visibility, with a very distinctive instrument cluster thanks to the counter-rotating needles, designed to focus the driver’s attention.
As for the engines, no specific details are known yet, but the brand has confirmed there will be a very eco-friendly version with CO2 emissions below 85 g/km.
The Peugeot 308 will reach dealerships in autumn of this year, after being presented in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
