Peugeot modernizes its brand: this is the new lion emblem

The French brand has unveiled the modernization of its logo, which will feature on its new models and in dealerships, recovering a logo from 1960.

Times change, move forward, and brands cannot fall behind. Not only do cars evolve in their design and performance. Brand image also needs a touch of modernity periodically. And that is where brand image design teams come in, updating logos to always offer a current and powerful view of these brands. This is what Peugeot has done, bringing a new emblem with the lion as its protagonist.

Since 1850, Peugeot has used 10 logos, and the most recent one has been in force since 2010. As you know, it depicted a full-body lion. The one that will reign on the grille of the brand’s upcoming models looks to the past and recreates the one used in the 1960s, but updating and modernizing the image.

The Peugeot 308, first model of the new era

The transition to this new era, dominated by a renewed logo, will begin on March 18. And that date is not random: it is the day the Peugeot 308 will be presented. This will be the first model to feature the new logo. It is the head of a roaring lion, framed in a white shield on a black background. The lion’s head, stylized, is also outlined in white, which offers a powerful and highly visual contrast.

The logo change is not just aesthetic. Peugeot wants to take a step forward and wants to move towards electrification of its entire range. In fact, it is expected that by 2025 an electrified version will be available for each model in the brand’s line-up. In a shorter timeframe, it is expected that by the end of 2021, 80% of the models sold will have, one way or another, electrification technology.

An interesting fact is that although it has now been unveiled as the new logo, we saw it a while ago. In 2018 the Peugeot e-Legend concept prototype was presented to the public. And it already featured this logo, which was then interpreted as something futuristic and as experimental as the vehicle itself. Today, it has become the official image of the brand.

The change has already begun to be noticeable on the brand’s websites and in its dealerships, which will gradually adapt to the new image. The logo was designed by the PEUGEOT Design Lab team, the Global Brand Design studio of the PEUGEOT brand. A new image for a stage that represents a further step in the modernization of the oldest car brand still in operation.
