Pininfarina abandons vehicle manufacturing

The economic crisis, the refusal of Ferrari to have the Stratos built by Pininfarina, and its financial situation, which is still quite delicate, has led the legendary Italian house to shut down its production of bodies and vehicles.

Although it will continue its design and engineering operations, its plant in Italy will be closed (or probably sold, as we will see) and the 127 workers will be laid off. To cope with these redundancies, Pininfarina has nearly 3 million euros ready in severance pay.

One of those interested in buying the facilities that Pininfarina is leaving behind is the French industrial group Bolloré, the promoter and partner of Pininfarina with the B0 electric. Pininfarina produced its last vehicles in 2010, completing contracts for the Spider and Brera models for Alfa Romeo and the Ford Focus coupé-cabriolet.
