Porsche Cayenne S Diesel, a new way of thinking

Porsche launches the first Cayenne Diesel with a twin-turbo V8 engine.

A Porsche Diesel? What kind of joke is this? I’m sure that, apart from me, many of you thought the same when the Stuttgart firm announced, several years ago now, the launch of a Cayenne with an engine running on diesel. Even so, I still haven’t got used to it, and right now finding a petrol four-seater from this brand is very hard, and Porsche knows it.

For this reason, and after seeing the success of the V6 Turbo Diesel sourced from Volkswagen/Audi in its Panamera and Cayenne, the management of this prestigious brand has decided to create the Porsche Cayenne S Diesel, the first V8 diesel in the family.

This new 4.2-litre engine is capable of producing a whopping 382 CV of power thanks to two turbochargers. It has a maximum torque of 850 Nm, enough to set the Earth moving with a simple press of the accelerator.

With this power, and thanks to the all-wheel drive system, the Cayenne S Diesel can reach 100 km/h from a standstill in 5.7 seconds. Its top speed is 252 km/h. With fuel consumption below 8.4 l/100 km, it can cover an average distance of around 1,200 km.

Aesthetically, the only changes compared with a petrol S variant are the identification badges on the sides of the vehicle. In addition, Porsche will give customers the option of fitting Torque Vectoring Plus.

In Germany it will start at a price above €77,000, and although Spanish prices are not yet known, they will surely be considerably higher than in the country of manufacture.
