Porsche has made its position clear: it is betting on electric models and is buying a stake in Rimac

After proving its worth by designing two electric supercars that have surprised us all, Rimac has partnered with Porsche so that they can use its technology

Porsche has launched its first 100% electric model, the Taycan, based on the popular and surprising Porsche Mission E. It seems the experience has been good, although it has not yet gone on sale, because the Stuttgart brand has decided to press ahead and the Taycan will not be the only electric vehicle of this kind to leave the German factory. So it has wanted to get ahead of everyone, aiming to overtake the great rival to beat, Tesla, and has bought a stake in a young company that builds electric supercars.

Rimac is a young Croatian company that has surprised everyone with two electric supercars, presented recently. The Rimac Concept_One and the Rimac C_2 are this company’s credentials and with them it has carved out a place in this exclusive and novel industry. The Rimac C_2 was presented at the last Geneva Motor Show and left everyone open-mouthed with its power, almost equal to 2,000 CV.

With that electric motor it can offer an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.85 seconds and a top speed of 416 km/h. So the people from Stuttgart thought that something like this would suit their models well. With the purchase of 10% of the company they close a collaboration agreement under which the technology developed by Rimac will become part of Porsche’s models.

It comes at the moment the Taycan has been presented, that production model we were waiting for and which already carries inside it part of the technology that enabled those two fabulous electric supercars. Rimac’s technology is not limited to electrification; it also has very advanced connectivity technology and has worked on autonomous driving systems, which could be used to improve the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems of Porsche.

This collaboration agreement with Porsche will open the company up and allow it to begin working with other manufacturers. In fact, it has been reported that Rimac is working with Automobili Pinifarina to develop its own electric supercar model. What will we find as a result of this collaboration between these two powerful brands? Time will tell, but either way, it promises a lot, doesn’t it?
