Power in a small body makes sense in the Volkswagen Polo R WRC tuned by Wimmer
The tuner Wimmer has dared to modify a Volkswagen Polo R WRC and has doubled its power, also adding a decoration with optional extras

The Volkswagen Polo is one of those models designed for city driving that usually don’t need excessive power, precisely for that reason. But every now and then, manufacturers want to give the model adequate power so it can also be a benchmark car on the track. And suddenly we find a small, urban car that has inside it the power needed to take on much more powerful models.
In the case of the Volkswagen Polo we find several very powerful versions that come straight from the factory. The case of the Volkswagen R WRC is quite well known, as it is capable of pushing the brand’s little car to unimaginable limits, with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine. This version, the most powerful of the VW Polo, takes it up to 220 CV and achieves a maximum torque of 450 Nm. This is far more than what is found in the Volkswagen Polo GTI, which has a power of 200 CV and a maximum torque of 320 Nm. One is a special edition and the other a production model, but Wimmer has focused on the former and given it an upgrade to make it more interesting.

The tuner has taken it upon himself to add more power to that high-performance version, equipping it with 420 CV of power, which goes hand in hand with a maximum torque of 651 Nm. Power for a small car that suddenly becomes a beast on the circuits, because its light weight makes it an impressive and very appealing car. The model’s top speed is put at 280 km/h, although we do not have the figure for the 0 to 100 km/h acceleration.

To achieve this milestone, Wimmer has added a new turbocharger, an improved air intake, a modified high-pressure pump has been changed, a fuel pump with a pressure of 6 bar, a Y-shaped pipe with a sport catalytic converter, an intercooler and a modified exhaust to deliver greater performance. All of this is managed by new software that makes it perform better.
All this comes with a good number of optional extras, so with this engine modification and these options available on the market, the result is a truly impressive and attractive car. That said, the power pack costs 10,200 euros and the various options can considerably raise the price of the model, so that from the base price it can increase by up to 5,000 euros more. That said, you will be the owner of an urban car with the power of a supercar…
