The success achieved by the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 SuperVeloce has been remarkable and so significant that the 600 units to which its production was limited sold out in three months, just before the first unit was delivered to its lucky owner. Along the way, the coupé version has managed to spark the interest of all the manufacturer’s fans, based in Sant’Agata Bolognese, especially when it set a spectacular lap time at the Nürburgring that placed it as the second fastest production vehicle on the ‘Ring’, just two seconds behind the king.

Stephan Winkelmann, the head of Lamborghini, confirmed that for the first time in the company’s history, a roadster would carry the ‘SV’ badge on its bodywork, along with all the specifications that this entails. Shortly afterwards, the first images of the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 SuperVeloce Roadster were leaked online through a specialist photographer who had access to its designs. Now, it has finally been presented in Monterey, confirming many of the details that had already been circulating as rumours.

First of all, unlike the coupé version, the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 SuperVeloce Roadster will be limited to just 500 units (compared with the coupé’s 600), while the remaining specifications are practically identical in both variants. The 6.5-litre V12 engine receives an additional 50 CV, raising output to 750 CV at 8,400 rpm and torque to 690 Nm. Paired with this powerful engine is a seven-speed ISR transmission that delivers power to all four wheels through a fourth-generation Haldex system.

The SuperVeloce Roadster shares the same components as the coupé variant, including magnetic suspension, the anti-roll system and the Lamborghini dynamic steering (LDS). Its weight, which usually works against convertible versions, is 1,575 kilograms, so it remains 50 kilograms lighter than the Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster. Its power-to-weight ratio is a more than acceptable 2.1 kg/CV, allowing it to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, just 0.1 seconds slower than its hard-top sibling. Top speed remains electronically limited to 350 km/h in both variants.

Looking at the details that set the Aventador LP 750-4 SuperVeloce Roadster apart from the Coupé, we find an electric rear window that allows occupants to choose how loudly they want to hear the roar of its powerful engine inside the cabin. Also linked to this window is the two-piece folding hard top made of carbon fibre, which, according to Lamborghini, ensures greater rigidity at an extremely low weight. These two roof panels together weigh just 6 kilograms and can be stored in the boot.

As with the Aventador LP 750-4 SuperVeloce, the Roadster variant will accept orders before production begins. The 500 units, which are limited, will reach their future owners from 2016, presumably in the first quarter of the year, while its price in Europe will amount to €357,000 (VAT excluded).
