Radar, the new Chinese brand arriving in Spain with an electric pick-up

A new Chinese brand is set to bring to the European market an electric pick-up aimed not only at work, but also at leisure and recreation.

The arrival of electric vehicles from China shows no sign of slowing down. We already know one of the new brands set to arrive from the Asian country, which will initially offer a quite interesting electric pick-up. Radar, the name of the brand, comes, like so many others, from the multinational Geely, which already has several brands on the European market. Volvo, Smart, Lotus, Polestar and Lynk & Co, among others, belong to this group.

The first vehicle coming from Radar is an interesting electric pick-up. The model is named the Radar RD6, which is already sold in China and whose production has begun to ramp up so that its arrival in Europe will be effective. For Geely, it is “China’s first purely electric outdoor lifestyle brand“.

Although it operates under the umbrella of the multinational, Radar has its own factory and R&D facilities. Here they develop their own solutions to shape these vehicles, which aim to be a benchmark for work and leisure, all designed to be enjoyed behind the wheel.

Platform and batteries

The model is underpinned by the SEA platform that Geely uses in other vehicles. It is present in the Zeekr 001 and will also be in the upcoming Polestar 4. It gives it a fairly complete battery pack, with three alternatives to cover the needs of any user.

The first of these uses a 63 kWh battery, which gives it a range of 400 kilometres under the Chinese CLTC homologation cycle. The intermediate version uses an 86 kWh battery, which offers a range of 550 kilometres, also under the CLTC cycle. Finally, the top version offers a range of 632 kilometres thanks to the 100 kWh battery.

The electric motor

All three variants use the same electric motor, which delivers a power output of 213 kW, that is, 268 CV. However, the brand says a new version with two electric motors and all-wheel drive will soon be launched. To improve the pick-up‘s performance, it will feature a V2L bidirectional charging system and 220-volt power outlets, for connecting tools and other accessories to the vehicle.

The pick-up with which the brand debuts in Europe will come with accessories to enhance its leisure and outdoor spirit. The price for our market has not been revealed, but in China it costs 178,800 yuan, which is about 25,112 euros for the entry version. The one with the largest battery costs 228,800 yuan, or 28,914 euros at the current exchange rate.
