Red pill or blue pill? The Mercedes Class G has it clear at the Matrix Resurrections premiere
The new instalment of the Matrix saga, which premiered in San Francisco with a premiere featuring the lead actors, included a Mercedes Class G as an extra.

Cars and cinema are a very common combination, we already know that. Films want to show off striking vehicles, and manufacturers want showcases for their vehicles that reach the whole world. And big Hollywood blockbusters are ideal for showcasing them. If, besides appearing in films, these models take part in the film’s promotional events, they become even more present.
So it did not surprise us to see a unit of the Mercedes-Benz Class G at the Matrix: Resurrections premiere. The vehicle starred in a very special image, when it could be seen inside one of the red pills that are so popular in the film saga that returned to cinemas in 2021.

Red pill in the shape of the Mercedes Class G
The film returns to the essence of the original trilogy, in which Neo woke up from his artificial life in the Matrix thanks to Morpheus. He offered him two possibilities. The blue pill represented conformity, continuing to live his artificial existence, and the red pill, awakening and seeing life as it really is. Harsh, complicated, but much more exciting. That is what the Mercedes-Benz Class G represents, and that is why it was chosen to be depicted as that red pill.

The model was placed in a giant red pill measuring 12 metres long and 3.5 metres high, opposite the cinema that hosted the world premiere of the film starring Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss. According to the brand, both the vehicle and the red pill represent individuality, freedom and self-determination.
In the film, the characters Neo and Trinity escape from the Matrix agents in one of these cars, so its presence in the film is fundamental. The robustness, power and versatility of this car allow the protagonists to escape and continue their mission 20 years after the last instalment of the saga.
As a curiosity, it is worth remembering that in 2018 the new Class G was also placed in a 44-tonne block of synthetic resin. On that occasion the launch of the model was being celebrated, and it also caused great expectation.
