Rivian begins deliveries of its long-awaited R2 SUV in the United States
With the new R2, Rivian seeks to consolidate its position in the mid-size electric SUV segment, offering a more affordable vehicle without losing the adventurous focus that characterises the brand.
Rivian has begun delivering the first units of its R2 electric SUV to American customers after starting series production last April at its plant in Normal, Illinois. The Californian startup is also gradually opening its online configurator to holders of existing reservations, allowing them to choose specifications and finalise their orders.
The R2 was first unveiled more than two years ago, in March 2024. In March 2026, Rivian revealed prices and trim levels for the US market.

Initially, only the best-equipped version is available, the R2 Performance with the Launch Package, which starts at $57,990. The company plans to launch more affordable versions later, with prices that could be around $45,000. Customers on a tighter budget will therefore have to be patient.
“At Rivian we are truly proud of the effort the whole team has put into developing the new R2. This vehicle reflects the passion and enthusiasm of everyone who has worked tirelessly to make it a reality. Now it is time for customers to enjoy it.”
As we have already mentioned, deliveries are limited to Launch Edition units. Rivian is already sending invitations to its customers to configure the vehicle and complete their order, depending on the reservation date and delivery location.

The Rivian R2 in Europe
The Rivian R2 should eventually reach the European market, but for now it is unclear when. Initially, Rivian scheduled 2027 as the launch year for its more affordable SUV on the Old Continent, but earlier this year it quietly removed that information from its European website. So everything is currently up in the air, and we will have to wait for further news on the matter in the coming months.
