Rivian offers more affordable versions of its vehicles with smaller-capacity batteries
The electric pickup from the company now starts for the first time just below 70,000 dollars in the United States, and buyers may also qualify for the 7,500-dollar federal tax credit offered by the U.S. government.
The American manufacturer has just expanded the number of options available when configuring one of its vehicles with two new battery packs of smaller capacity than those it has offered until now. Available for both the R1T pickup and the R1S SUV, the first has a capacity of 106 kWh, while the second is 121 kWh.
Rivian calls these new battery packs Standard and Standard+, joining the existing Large (135 kWh) and Max (149 kWh) packs. According to the manufacturer’s own configurator, the 106 kWh Standard battery pack offers a range of up to 435 km, while with the Standard+ it is 507 km. It should be clarified, however, that these figures are the manufacturer’s and do not correspond to the official EPA range, which is not yet known.

With these new battery packs, the entry price of the Rivian R1T and R1S drops considerably. The electric pickup from the American manufacturer is now available in the United States from 69,900 dollars for the Dual Motor AWD configuration with the Standard battery pack. If the Standard+ battery pack is chosen, the final price rises to 73,000 dollars. Likewise, the R1S electric SUV is now available from 84,000 dollars.
More options than ever to suit each customer’s needs
It should also be noted that customers seeking more performance can opt for the Performance Dual Motor AWD version with the Standard+ battery pack, which adds 5,000 dollars to the entry version’s price, plus 3,100 dollars for the Standard+ battery pack.

In 2023, Rivian delivered a total of 57,232 vehicles, surpassing the company’s initial expectations of around 54,000 units. Besides the R1T electric pickup and the R1S SUV, the company also sells the EDV delivery van for Amazon. Looking ahead, Rivian is set to build its second production plant after receiving approval from the authorities at the end of last year. This new plant, located in the state of Georgia, will be capable of producing 200,000 vehicles a year and should begin operating this same year.
