Rivian surprises with the new Borealis paint colour for the R1T and R1S
Rivian has always been known for offering unconventional paint colours for its R1T and R1S models. Following that same approach, the American manufacturer has now stood out with the introduction of Borealis.
The removal in mid-September 2023 of the paint colour Compass Yellow, a vibrant yellow that broke away from the monotony of the usual colours on most pickups and SUVs on the market, left many Rivian customers frustrated at the time.
The decision was officially announced at the end of August that same year, and from that very moment the manufacturer began sending emails to customers with pending configurations in that paint colour, informing them that they should change their chosen colour if their configuration was not completed before that date, as it was going to be discontinued.

Those disappointed customers have reason to rejoice today, if they have happened to decide to renew their vehicle after these two years, with the announcement by Rivian of the availability of a new paint colour capable of catching the attention of friends and strangers alike. During the recent Art Week celebration in Miami Beach, the American manufacturer unveiled Borealis, a striking intense purple for its R1T and R1S models that left all attendees at the event open-mouthed.
Break out of the monotony
The truth is that Rivian’s design studio has always been very bold. The paint colours Launch Green and Compass Yellow made a difference, and even today ten paint colours are offered to choose from for the R1T pickup and the R1S SUV, most of them quite far from the classic white, grey and black.
Getting hold of an R1T or an R1S that stands out in any public car park among hundreds of vehicles in dull paint colours is not, however, going to be cheap. Borealis is only available for versions with three or four electric motors, and requires an extra payment of 3 thousand dollars. Customers interested in this paint colour will also not be able to think it over for long, since it will only be available for a limited time. So it’s best not to leave for tomorrow what can be done today.

Additionally, Rivian has taken advantage of the Borealis presentation to confirm the removal from its catalogue of the paint colour Limestone, and the continuation of Red Canyon until the end of 2026.
