Rolls-Royce celebrates the Phantom Cherry Blossom and the beauty of cherry trees in bloom
Rolls-Royce kicks off spring with a commission from a Japanese client that pays tribute to the spectacular beauty of cherry trees in bloom

The arrival of spring marks the start of one of the many tourist attractions Spain is known for, and in many regions of the country the spectacular beauty of cherry trees in bloom draws thousands of people who come to photograph them. We share this tradition with Japan, where it is known as Hanami, a natural spectacle that attracts thousands and thousands of people and has become a national heritage event.
If we take pride in our cherry trees here, in Japan they are almost considered a symbol of the land of the rising sun. So much so that if you also have a few spare banknotes, you can buy a Rolls-Royce Phantom that you can personalise with the most eye-catching idea you can think of. In this case, the theme revolves around Sakura (Japanese cherry blossom), brought to the car through the British brand’s craftsmanship to create this Phantom Cherry Blossom.

The exterior of the Rolls-Royce Phantom Cherry Blossom is just a preview of what we will find inside and, to whet the appetite, Rolls-Royce has chosen a subtle Arctic White colour, contrasted by a hand-painted line that narrows as it reaches the middle of the rear door, ending in a delicate cherry blossom flower. Unlike other occasions, the huge wheels do not serve as contrast; they have also been painted in the same colour as the bodywork.

This small preview leads us inside, where the eye is inevitably drawn to the Starlight headliner. As the client requested, it makes you feel as if you were standing beneath a blossoming tree during Hanami. The ceiling represents a cherry tree in bloom, which required three weeks of embroidery with more than 250,000 stitches. It also features “petals” that, thanks to the LED lights, appear to drift down over the upholstery and even onto the door panels and the division between the rear and front seats, Privacy Suite. These petals were created using three-dimensional embroidery, each one individually sculpted into shape before being sewn back in its place, creating a shadow effect.
The Rolls-Royce Phantom turns 100 years old in 2025, so it is very likely that we will see new and spectacular commissions for this vehicle throughout the year.
