Saab will not be at Frankfurt

If you have followed, even briefly, the painful and very delicate situation that the Swedish brand is going through, the headline should come as no surprise. And not because there is no news, since the 9-4X would have reached this continent long ago were it not for the agony of the coffers in Trollhattan.

The reason is simple: things are dire. That is what Saab’s official press release says in plain language: “We currently have the capital needed to be able to resume producing cars. The show was a very good opportunity to present our range to the world, but for our shareholders that expense is not justified“.

The Dutch magazine Autoweek has confirmed this again through the spokesman for the Dutch subsidiary of the Swedish firm, Dick Braakhekke. He stated that the absolute priority lies in making the best use of the money that barely arrives in time to produce cars and pay some of their debts.

Nevertheless, the brand itself does not rule out appearing at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November or in Detroit in January 2012 at the latest. That said, this is provided things have not gotten even worse by then. Will it make it alive to Geneva?
