Sales of Rivian rise in 2024 compared with the previous year

The sales figures recorded by Rivian throughout the whole of 2024 are moderately satisfactory, which will allow the North American manufacturer to face the future with some optimism.

Rivian has just released very positive data on the sales volume of its electric models recorded throughout 2024. According to the company, during the past year the assembly line at its plant in Normal, Illinois, produced almost 50,000 vehicles -49,476 units-. Rivian also managed to deliver a total of 51,579 vehicles to its customers over the same period, which represents a new delivery record for the company, surpassing the 50,122 units delivered in 2023.

Rivian has also revealed the results obtained during the last quarter of 2024. In this period, the company was able to produce 12,727 vehicles and deliver 14,183, coming quite close to the target it had set beforehand. These figures are especially positive if we take into account that the electric vehicle market is not going through its best moment at present, as has been made clear by the results recorded by a good number of manufacturers over the last few quarters.

It is important to highlight, however, that not all of the data put on the table by Rivian has been positive. In 2024 the company was not able to exceed the production figure reached in 2023, when more than 57,000 vehicles left the Normal plant in Illinois across the three models it currently sells: the R1T pickup, the R1S SUV and the EDV commercial van.

Slowdown in production volume

With 49,476 units produced in 2024, this represents a reduction of just over 7,000 units compared with the previous year, which the company puts down to the cut in its production targets. Last October, Rivian reduced its production target from 57,000 to no more than 49,000 units, as a consequence of some problems in its supply chain. Poor communication with one of its main suppliers deprived the company of the components needed to produce the electric motors used in its vehicles, forcing it to pause production.

Faced with this situation, Rivian already anticipated last November that the profit figure for the whole of 2024 would be quite modest, although we will have to wait until 20 February to know the official figures. In any case, everything points to Rivian having managed to end the year meeting the minimum expectations it had set itself, which will allow it to maintain confidence that results in the coming years can be much better with the planned launch of new models within its range.
