Say hello to the new Volkswagen Nivus: the upcoming coupé-style SUV from Wolfsburg
Volkswagen has already released the first teasers of the Nivus, a new coupé-style SUV that will sit between the T-Roc and the Tiguan and is due to arrive in 2021.

Volkswagen does not intend to slow down its run of success despite the health crisis we are going through, and shows it with the early reveal of its next addition, the Nivus. It is a new coupé-style SUV that will be positioned between the T-Roc and the Tiguan, aiming to offer a slightly more exclusive middle ground between the first two rungs of the range. A few months ago, the German brand already gave us a preview of this new arrival’s looks in a video, but today it has wanted to give us the chance to see its overall design in more detail.
Now, the people from Wolfsburg offer a closer look at the Nivus through images in which, although a striking camouflage is still present, we can make out much of the final result. And Volkswagen has not hesitated to make clear the position of this new model within its line-up, which it intends to bring modernity and a new design language to.
The front end is dominated by a striking black grille that carries the brand’s new logo, and two long, slim LED headlights. The bumper references its SUV DNA with an imposing black grille and considerable ground clearance, but it is the side profile that takes care of providing that coupé character.

Thanks to a pronounced drop of the C-pillar, the Nivus achieves the structure that is so fashionable right now and that other models in the Volkswagen Group, such as the Audi Q3 Sportback or the Q8, also use. This means the rear window has a steeper rake than usual, but it does not stop the rear lights, joined by a light strip, a feature the brand had already introduced with the T-Cross.
For now, the mechanical side will be headlined by a 1.0-litre TSI engine producing 128 CV, which will be aimed mainly at the Brazilian market. However, with the Nivus’s arrival in Europe, Volkswagen will expand the range of engines to include diesel, petrol and CNG units.
It is very likely that this Volkswagen bet will hit the market during 2021, by which time we hope the situation we are living through right now will have eased in every respect. In this way, the German firm is preparing to expand its SUV range with an option that carries a more exclusive halo.
