Seat León Verde: The León Plugs Into the Grid

CENIT-VERDE-2

The VW Group Volkswagen continues to expand its environmental expertise, placing special emphasis on plug-in hybrid vehicles, a technology in which VW has come to rank among the best.

From the most sporty models to the most practical ones, plug-in hybrid technology is taking on an increasingly prominent role in the German manufacturer’s eco-friendly plans. It started with the Porsche Panamera e-hybrid, continued with the Porsche 918, and also includes the Audi A3 e-tron. Now it is the turn of the Seat León Verde.

The Seat León Verde is presented as a prototype developed within the framework of the CENIT project, which aims to promote the viability of electric propulsion for urban mobility. In this way, Seat presents a hybrid León that combines a petrol engine with an electric motor coupled together, resulting in an extremely efficient compact without giving up the comforts of a conventional vehicle.

This special León fits the already well-known 1.4 TSI with 122 CV and an electric motor of 102 CV, which transmit power to the road through a 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox. It is capable of travelling up to 50 km in fully electric mode thanks to its lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 8.8 kWh. It homologates a consumption of less than 1.5 l/100 km, achieving a total range of more than 800 km, figures similar to those offered by its “sibling”, the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron.

One of the most relevant features of this León Verde is its energy management system, which can be controlled via a smartphone and offers the possibility to access data such as consumption, battery status and other vehicle parameters. Furthermore, the Seat León Verde can charge its batteries at the most suitable moment for its driver’s wallet, as well as return energy to the grid if necessary. A true technological compendium.
