SEAT's turn: 700,000 cars affected by illegal software

Following statements from brands such as Audi and Skoda regarding the number of vehicles involved in the emissions scandal, it is now SEAT‘s turn.

The Spanish company, owned by the Volkswagen Group, has informed the relevant authorities that it put 700,000 “polluting” cars on the road.

SEAT joins the other brands of the German group, which have progressively been disclosing the number of vehicles involved. Recently, we learned that in Audi there were 2.1 million cars with the cheating programming, a figure that drops to 1.2 million in the case of the Czech manufacturer Skoda. For its part, the brand Volkswagen has admitted that at least 5 million of its cars run the illegal software.

For the time being, the Volkswagen Group has announced that in the coming days it will unveil an action plan to begin resolving this enormous problem on a global scale, which is giving – and will continue to give – considerable headaches to the managers of the automotive giant, which has already cost its former CEO, Martin Winterkorn, his job.

Focusing on Spain, yesterday Volkswagen announced a temporary halt to the sale of vehicles still equipped with the deceptive engines, which in our country amount to around 3,000 units, that have for now been withdrawn from sale until it is determined whether they fitted the software in question.

These are stock units that the group Volkswagen had not yet managed to sell, and which, thanks to a moratorium from the competent authorities, could continue to be sold even though they no longer met the anti-pollution standards currently in force (Euro 6 standard).

For now, SEAT positions itself as the brand with the fewest affected vehicles: cars from the Ibiza, Alhambra, Leon, Leon ST, Leon SC, Leon ST X-Perience, Altea and Altea XL ranges.
