Skoda previews a supposed electric van as a tribute to the Skoda 1203
Skoda continues its electric offensive, an offensive that could go on with the Skoda 1023, a 100% electric van that hides a past.
Electric powertrains are all the rage, and it is only natural to expect them to end up in all kinds of vehicles. With this premise, Skoda has decided to conceive a new Skoda 1203, a designation that in the past was used for a van. After all, we should not forget that the Group Volkswagen advanced some time ago the possibility of an electric van with the Volkswagen ID.Buzz, a prototype that, considering the direction all of its subsidiaries are taking, would not be far-fetched to see become reality.
For now, we are looking at a design exercise that seeks to pay tribute to the legendary Czech van, but the truth is that its application could be very feasible. Skoda has already moved fully into the sector with the Skoda Enyaq, a model that is based on the modular MEB platform that is bringing other models of the Group Volkswagen to life.
As far as design goes, we can see a clear application of the latest Skoda styling cues, though adapted to what is a concept car. The front end, despite lacking an engine, shows a certain slope aimed at benefiting aerodynamics and, in turn, improving consumption. Here we also find new light units that join with the brand logo, which in this case is backlit.

The rear features light units joined by a thin LED strip, a feature increasingly present in today’s vehicles. In addition, there is a central word Skoda, a nod to those latest design trends being followed by the most recent models from the Czech firm and which seek to anticipate tomorrow’s car.
For now, no reference has been made to powertrains, but should the renewed Skoda 1203 reach production, a generous range of engines is expected. Models such as the Enyaq have already shown that the possible configurations are many, so this would not be unfeasible in a van with the same mechanical layout.

It is true that SUVs are taking on a major role in the market, which has caused people carriers to be sidelined. However, the proposal of an electric car capable of serving both as a cargo vehicle and as a passenger vehicle could be key to diversifying the sector and offering a broader range of segments capable of attracting different customer profiles. Time will tell.
