VisionS 1

It was only a matter of time. After the launch of the new generation of the Tiguan, the arrival of SEAT’s first SUV, the Ateca, and the teaser from Skoda, the new Czech SUV was bound to appear.

Here it is, still as a prototype, but with every sign of becoming a reality. They have named it VisionS, and it is the new seven-seat SUV from Skoda.

A few weeks ago we saw the first teaser from Skoda for this model. It revealed nothing, as it was only an image of a garage door under the slogan “The biggest thing from Skoda”. Days later the Czech brand released a sketch in which something could begin to be made out.

It was only 10 days before the start of the Geneva Motor Show that Skoda decided to publish the first images and the first data on this SUV, which is set to replace the veteran Yeti, with the addition of greater interior space and a versatility never before seen in the brand.

It bears a strong resemblance to the SEAT Ateca. It seems angular lines are the trend at Skoda

The VisionS naturally shares some similarities with both the VW Tiguan and the SEAT Ateca. However, aesthetically each has its own personality, although it must be admitted that the resemblance to the SEAT is more than evident. The front is the part that most distinguishes the VisionS from its siblings in the group, with an image very similar to that of the current Octavia or Superb. Angular lines are the trend within the Czech subsidiary.

The side and rear, however, are very, very similar, especially to those of the Ateca. It seems the cheaper siblings must keep a greater resemblance, in order to cut costs to the bone. The interior is expected to be a cabin very similar to that of the Octavia.

The VisionS is built on the MQB platform and, for the occasion, features the plug-in hybrid system of the Tiguan GTE Concept. This means a 150 hp 1.4 TSI engine and a 115 CV electric motor. In total, 225 CV, which allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds, with an electric range of 50 km and an average combined consumption of 1.9 litres per 100 km.

The production version will offer more combustion engine variants, both TSI and TDI, with the latter expected to account for the majority of sales. Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants are also expected, which can be combined with manual and DSG automatic gearboxes.
