Smart Fortwo and Forfour: all the details on the range and equipment

Smart will launch the new generations of the Fortwo and Forfour next November, but before that it will showcase the models on a tour passing through fifteen European cities, to inform customers about their features. Alongside this initiative, the manufacturer has released all the information on the range and equipment for both the Fortwo and the Forfour.
Initially only the 71 CV engine will be available. The 0.9 tCe with 90 CV from Renault will not be offered until December. The dual-clutch gearbox will be introduced during spring 2015. In their respective base trims, both models will come standard with front LED lights with daytime running function, cruise control with speed limiter, outside temperature indicator, instrument cluster with a monochrome LCD display and trip computer, electric windows and central locking. From there, the equipment varies depending on the higher trims the customer selects.

The passion offers two interior colour combinations (black and orange, or black and white), a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, an instrument cluster with a 3.5″ colour TFT screen and the “Direct-Steer” steering system with variable steering ratio. This trim carries a surcharge of 1,390 euros over the base version.
The prime level includes black leather upholstery with white stitching, a gear lever knob also wrapped in leather, a multifunction steering wheel, the “Direct-Steer” system and lane departure warning, and heated front seats. The price difference over the base trim is 1,990 euros on the Fortwo and 2,150 on the Forfour.

The most complete trim is called proxy and adds, as standard, a panoramic roof, two-tone leather and fabric upholstery (white and blue) and the Cool & Audio and Sports packs (including 16-inch alloy wheels). On the Fortwo this means paying 3,390 euros more, and on the Forfour the surcharge rises to 3,500 euros.
Smart will offer optional packs to enhance the equipment of the Fortwo and Forfour. There will be five to choose from, as follows:
- Comfort = Includes height-adjustable steering wheel and electric exterior mirrors, and costs 270 euros.
- LED & Sensor = For 510 euros it adds LED technology for the front headlights, fog lights and rear lights, plus light and rain sensors.
- Sports = Costs 575 euros and, in addition to the 16″ wheels, lowers the suspension by ten millimetres.
- Cool & Audio = Costs 1,100 euros and adds automatic climate control, a pollen and dust filter, Bluetooth and navigation system when combined with the smart mobile app.
- Cool & Media = Shares almost everything with the Cool & Audio but also provides a seven-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system and real-time traffic information for the navigation system. The price for the proxy trim is 670 euros and for the passion and prime trims 1,700 euros.

Beyond the packs, optional equipment covers further areas such as safety, where customers can add systems like front collision risk warning (250 euros) and lane departure warning (380 euros on the passion). Other extras available include a rear-view camera (345 euros), rear parking sensors (300 euros), JBL sound system (545 euros on the Fortwo and 595 on the Forfour) or a fabric sliding roof for the Forfour (990 euros).
As is customary with Daimler products, the new Smart models will also receive a limited launch series called “Edition 1“. On the exterior it will be distinguished by orange paint on the Tridion safety cell, contrasting with the body colour, white on the Fortwo and grey on the Forfour, 16″ wheels painted black, the panoramic roof and lowered suspension by 10 mm.

The interior of the Smart Edition 1 will stand out through the contrast of orange and black/grey colours on the upholstery, dashboard and doors, the three-spoke multifunction steering wheel and the gear lever knob wrapped in leather, polished steel sports pedals and the “Edition 1” logo on the floor mats.
The standard equipment of this edition includes many items that are optional elsewhere, such as the “Direct-Steer” system and the Cool & Audio pack. The Fortwo Edition 1 will cost around 3,100 euros more than the base version, and the Forfour Edition 1 will be 3,400 euros more. Smart has not yet confirmed specific prices for Spain, but in Germany the base Fortwo will go on sale for just under 11,000 euros.
