Some renders help us imagine the future Volkswagen Viloran

Spy photos and partially revealed images have allowed us to picture the Volkswagen Viloran, a new MPV with crossover features

The rise of SUVs and crossovers in the brands’ line-ups has brought positive things, but also negative ones, since they have displaced other car segments and even made some disappear to take their place with new SUV models of varying sizes. One of these segments, which we could consider among the most affected by the SUV boom, is that of MPVs.

But with the disappearance of MPVs from the line-up of several brands, others have seen an opportunity to continue developing these vehicles, and although sales in this segment are no longer what they were a few years ago, with less competition comes a bigger slice of the pie for those who still keep MPVs. One of the reference brands in this segment is Volkswagen, which today has three of these models: Golf Sportsvan, Sharan and Touran.

Although this MPV lineup at the German brand is very close to changing, since a new Volkswagen MPV has recently been spotted, which they have named Viloran with plenty of camouflage and, on another occasion, loaded onto a truck covered only by a tarp that partially revealed it, and which has served to create the renders you can see in this article. By the way, it should be said that these renders were created by designer Nikita Chuiko.

The Volkswagen Vilorian is a large MPV, built on the MQB modular platform of the VAG Group, with crossover features that will undoubtedly give it a stronger presence. Nikita imagines the Viloran with the typical traits present in the brand’s latest updates and models, but with an imposing front end thanks in part to the large front grille with chrome horizontal lines, flanked on both sides by a lighting unit with the brand’s signature. Along its side we have a long vehicle, with smooth lines running along its entire length to reach a rear end that, if it weren’t for the fact that we’re talking about an MPV, we could say we’re looking at an SUV.

When the Volkswagen Vilorian was partially spotted, the inscription 380 TSI could be made out, so according to several outlets the Vilorian will have among its options a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine of 2.0 litres, which translates into a power output of around 220 CV and a torque of 258 Nm. This engine is most likely paired with a DSG automatic gearbox and, it is also probable, will have the option of Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel drive.

For now we don’t know for certain when and where the Volkswagen Vilorian will be available, but various sources point to this model being born thanks to the joint venture the German brand maintains with the Chinese automaker SAIC Motor, so we could be looking at a model dedicated exclusively to the Chinese market, although it is not ruled out that it may reach others, including Europe. Furthermore, judging by the images, these sources also suggest that the Vilorian is at a very advanced stage of development, so they venture to put December as the month sales will begin.
