Spain sales in November: down 6.4%, with the Renault Megane the best seller
The decline in Spain’s market sales shows no sign of stopping, falling by 9%. The best-selling model was once again the Renault Megane.

Sales of new cars in the Spanish market continue to slide. With proposals as absurd as taxing the use of motorways or capping the maximum age of cars, amid 17 consecutive months of decline and a forecast of fewer than 800,000 units to be sold for the whole of 2012, we are living through one of the worst moments in the history of motoring in Spain.
In November, a total of 33,282 units were registered for private buyers, a drop of 9%. This channel has now accumulated a 35.4% decline, with 352,138 registrations in the January–November period.
By model, the Renault Megane remains the sales leader, with 2,864 units sold, and the Citroën C4 is very, very close behind with 2,832. It is virtually a dead heat. By brand, Volkswagen holds the lead, though not by much over Renault.

The lower-middle segment remains the one selling the most units, with a 27.1% market share, while, as is customary, diesel cars dominate the engine types: 70.9% against 27.7% for petrol, while hybrids and electric cars remain as marginal as ever, at 1.4%.
