SsangYong X200: the next Korean SUV will wear a rugged look
The Korean brand has published two sketches of its next SUV, a vehicle with square, futuristic shapes that looks really, really promising

In recent times, SsangYong has gone through economically difficult moments due to the crisis stemming from the pandemic, and the brand wants to put an end to this by taking things a step further and presenting a new SUV with a very attractive and rugged look, reminiscent of the first generation of the Korando.
This is no coincidence, since Lee Kang, head of SsangYong’s design centre, supported by the Korean brand’s new design language called “Powered by Toughness”, wants to revive the company with designs characterised by robustness, something that defined the brand’s early models.
Off-road inspired design
At the front, this SsangYong X200 features round headlights set into a large black grille with chrome elements. At first glance, what stands out most are the angular shapes of its off-road style bumper and its flat bonnet with pronounced creases.

The side features very pronounced wide wheel arches which, together with the all-terrain tyres and off-road style side mouldings, just like the bumpers, convey great character. Its flat roof can be fitted with a retractable fabric roof without having to give up roof bars for carrying bicycles or even a tent, something that has been very fashionable lately.
Spare wheel on the tailgate
At the rear, there is a flat tailgate where one of its shapes suggests that a spare wheel could be mounted recessed into the tailgate. Its square rear lights and its bumper with a silver lower section, like the aforementioned side mouldings or the front bumper, are the finishing touch to this upcoming launch that leaves us excited.

For now, SsangYong has not disclosed further details about its price or arrival date, although it may share its powertrain with the upcoming Korando EV, a vehicle that will feature an electric motor producing 190 CV and a 61.5 kWh battery, allowing a range of around 320 kilometres on the WLTP cycle with 4×2 drive. Rumours suggest this new SUV will arrive by the end of 2022.
