Stellantis hires Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos as head of design for Alfa Romeo
The renowned Spanish designer has been hired by Stellantis to lead the design division of the Italian brand starting July 1

Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, the car designer who until now held the position of head of design at Dacia for the Renault group, has been hired as director of Alfa Romeo Design.
The designer from Madrid will begin his journey as a designer within the Italian brand on July 1, under the leadership of Jean-Pierre Ploué and Ralph Gilles, the top design executives within the large automotive group made up of brands such as Peugeot, Citroën, Opel, Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Jeep, among others.
Great designs behind him
Mesonero-Romanos’ career includes major creations such as the Seat Ateca, the Arona, the latest generations of the Ibiza and the León, the acclaimed Cupra Formentor and the Tavascan.

Back in 1995, Mesonero-Romanos joined the Design Department of the Spanish company SEAT until 2001, when he decided to move to Renault, where he held the position of head of design until 2009, when he decided to move to South Korea to take charge of design at Samsung.
He returned to SEAT in 2011 and remained until 2020, when, following the departure of Luca de Meo from the Spanish brand, Mesonero-Romanos joined Dacia to take charge of the design of the Dacia Duster.
After this long career and reputable experience, the designer is now responsible for renewing the iconic Italian brand in a current context of major change due to the electrification of brands along their new roadmaps.

Alfa Romeo is one of the brands that places the greatest importance on design, characterized by that beautiful Italian style that maintains the essence of the brand’s iconic models, from the Quadrifoglio. This makes it a great challenge for the Spanish designer, who has been tasked with renewing a brand with great exponents in terms of its aesthetics.
Jean-Pierre Ploué declared with great enthusiasm: “Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos is a car enthusiast and did excellent work at Cupra. The design team and I are eager to work with him.”
The return of the Alfa Romeo GTV that we brought you a few days ago may have something to do with Mesonero-Romanos’ arrival at the Italian brand’s offices. What we are certain of is that the graduate of the Royal College of Art in London will do great work at Alfa Romeo.
