Tesla already has more than one million active users of its full self-driving system, FSD

Tesla should no longer be seen as a traditional vehicle manufacturer, but rather as a company focused fundamentally on autonomous driving, robotics and Artificial Intelligence.

During the presentation of fourth-quarter 2025 results, which took place early this morning -Spanish time-, Elon Musk revealed some truly interesting data, and one of them, which we are going to focus on in this post, is the number of active users of its full self-driving system.

As you will probably already know, in the United States this system, popularly known as FSD –Full Self Driving–, has been offered as a package that can be bought together with the vehicle as an additional option, or later for a slight increase in price, since all Tesla vehicles come with all the necessary hardware as standard and it is only necessary to activate the software that allows full self-driving to be enjoyed.

For some years now, Tesla has also offered the option of subscribing to FSD as a monthly subscription service for 99 dollars. This alternative may be very interesting for customers who will not make use of it all year round, since they can cancel the subscription in the months they do not need it, also allowing them to try it for as long as they wish without having to pay the several thousand dollars that the purchase of the package costs.

Talking about Tesla means talking about FSD

Until now, however, there was doubt about the number of Tesla owners who had opted to have FSD as a subscription. This is information that Tesla had been reluctant to reveal throughout this time, but which we now know -more or less-. The upcoming transformation of Tesla into a company focused on autonomous driving, robotics, energy and Artificial Intelligence, moving further and further away from the traditional label of car manufacturer, has led the company to finally disclose the number of users who enjoy FSD.

According to Tesla, at the close of 2025, 1.1 million active users of its FSD (Supervised) autonomous driving system were registered. A figure that has been growing over the last few years since FSD was offered as a subscription in 2021. Thus, according to the company, that year there were 400 thousand active users, with growth of 100 thousand more users in each of the following two years -2022 and 2023-. In 2024 the figure rose notably to 800 thousand active users and, finally, last year, 2025, surpassed the million mark of active users with 1.1 million.

The company states that of these 1.1 million active FSD users, about 70 percent are customers who purchased the package upfront, while the rest enjoy it as a subscription, so it is easy to work out the approximate number of subscribers.

Tesla thus places itself ahead of direct competitors in the United States in autonomous driving, such as General Motors, which has almost half as many users of its Super Cruise system. The company is clear that its future lies in autonomous driving, since it is in this area that it can make a difference compared with the rest thanks to the advantage it has already managed to gain.

Subscriptions to the FSD autonomous driving system and revenue from its robotaxi service are presented as a source of income with an ever-greater weight in the company’s results, bearing in mind also that their margins are much higher than those from vehicle sales.
