Tesla boosts safety: its models now monitor the condition of the tyres
With the brand’s latest software update, Tesla has added a system that monitors the condition of the tyres and warns about their state.

Tesla never ceases to surprise the users of its vehicles. The latest innovation it has implemented in its latest software update is a tyre condition check. Owners of one of the brand’s models have noticed that since this update was installed, an indicator appears on the instrument cluster showing the condition of each of the four tyres.
This update informs the driver of the condition of each tyre individually, even pointing out if one of them shows more wear than the others and alerting the driver to this situation. It is a feature these vehicles previously lacked, and it has become a great mystery for owners of a Tesla.

A system kept under wraps
The existence of this warning has put drivers of a Tesla on alert. Until now, it was not known that the car fitted any sensor that recorded the activity and condition of the tyres, so it has aroused everyone’s curiosity. The new tyre monitoring system has led to a great deal of discussion and to people looking for the technology that makes this information possible.
Tesla has not, for the time being, revealed how it obtains this information or what technology it uses. For now there is nothing beyond users’ speculation, which seems to have arrived at a possible answer. Apparently, the onboard computer collects data such as the speed at which each wheel turns and compares it across all four.
A worn tyre with shallow grooves rotates in a different way, although this can be undetectable in many cases. With the system that Tesla appears to use, the computer is able to detect these subtle differences and alerts the driver. A visual inspection can confirm that wear, and action can be taken accordingly, avoiding the risk of driving on worn tyres.
So far, this system has been detected on several cars from the brand, although it has not been confirmed whether it will be part of the software update for all models or only some of them. Once all the brand’s vehicles have been updated, it will be possible to check whether this effective safety system is present on all of them.
