Tesla builds a crash test laboratory in Austin
Tesla takes a further step to earn the trust of its customers by building a crash test laboratory at its Austin, Texas factory

The American electric vehicle company is expanding its presence in Austin with the construction of a new factory that will produce the Tesla Cybertruck and other vehicles, in addition to including the new crash test laboratory, which will be part of the facility.
This new laboratory will be a space of about 2,500 square meters that will house testing equipment, a crash test track, and will support the current production of Tesla of 2 million electric vehicles. The facility will be used to conduct crash tests on Tesla vehicles before they go on sale to ensure passenger safety.
The Austin crash test laboratory is an important part of Tesla’s expansion in the electric vehicle market and the building of a presence in the Austin area. Tesla has been working for years to earn the trust of its consumers and, now, it is getting a little closer to its goals by prioritizing safety across its different models and making them the safest on the road today. The company has said the new factory in Austin will be one of the largest electric vehicle factories in the world.

The company is looking for staff to carry out these “testing” roles in support of the laboratory’s operations. The position offered is Engineering Technician, and apparently several engineers specializing in vehicles and mechanics, instrumentation and ATDs (anthropomorphic test devices or crash test dummies) are needed.
As Aaron H, recruiter at Tesla, indicates, these positions will perform several functions: “execute, analyze and report on crash and sled tests within required program timelines, focusing primarily on vehicle development, regulatory certification and consumer protection crash testing”.

The founder and CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, has spoken about the importance of safety in Tesla vehicles. In the past, he has pointed out that Tesla aims to achieve the highest safety rating in the crash tests of the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Austin crash test laboratory is an important step toward that goal.
Best rating according to NCAP
The Tesla Model 3 has received very good ratings for its safety parameters. This model obtained a five-star rating in all categories. An assessment by the NHTSA indicates that it is the model with the lowest probability of injury, and it has earned five stars from Euro NCAP and from Australia’s NCAP.
