New Honda ZR-V: a mid-size SUV that completes the range of the Japanese brand

Honda arrives in the Spanish market with no fewer than three major launches at once: a 100% electric version of the HR-V called Honda e:NY1, a complete overhaul of its popular large SUV, the CR-V, and finally the arrival of a mid-size SUV called ZR-V that completes the Japanese manufacturer’s SUV offensive.

Aimed at younger buyers, the new ZR-V has been developed using the design of the Honda Civic as its basis, which has been key to delivering great agility despite being a C-segment SUV with seating for up to five people and a boot that can reach 1,322 litres of capacity with the rear seats folded. Its retractable parcel shelf, with storage space beneath the floor, and the large number of trays and pockets inside also offer plenty of flexibility.

Following the style of its siblings

In terms of styling, the new Honda ZR-V follows the design language seen in the brand’s latest launches, with a large grille at the front, LED technology headlight units that are quite sharp, smooth and flowing side lines, and a rear with horizontally arranged tail lights, an SUV-style bumper and a small spoiler at the top of the rear window.

Inside, the ZR-V features a touchscreen for the 9-inch infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster with a fairly traditional style, a physical climate control selector, multiple USB sockets for charging several electronic devices, and a dashboard with the distinctive mesh insert already seen in the new Honda Civic.

According to the brand at the model’s presentation, the driving experience of this SUV will be really pleasant, thanks to systems such as a multi-link rear suspension and optimised bushings that deliver a very smooth and comfortable ride behind the wheel.

A single option, the conventional hybrid

Under the bonnet, the new ZR-V uses the efficient 2.0-litre, four-cylinder direct-injection Atkinson engine, paired with two small electric motors (one acting as generator and one as driver) from the Honda e:HEV system, to produce a total of 184 CV and a combined consumption of 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres.

Its arrival is scheduled from autumn 2023, so we will have to wait a little longer for more relevant information such as its prices or how its range will be structured.
