Tesla is set to open the first V4 Supercharger stations in China
Tesla’s V4 Supercharger stations, among other advantages, can even double the charging power supported compared to the V3 units of the previous generation.
Almost two years ago, in March 2023, Tesla opened its first V4 Supercharger station in the world in Harderwijk, in the Netherlands. Since then, the North American company has been expanding the availability of its next-generation charging points in both the European and North American markets, while China had been left out.
With the arrival of 2025, this situation is about to change completely, as the company itself has announced the long-awaited debut of the first V4 Supercharger stations in China.

Tesla also plans not only to expand its V4 Supercharger network in this Asian country, but also intends for electric vehicles from other brands to be able to access these new stations as well. It is worth recalling that the company recently announced that it already had new V4 cabinets, which will make it possible to increase charging power up to 500 kW for electric passenger vehicles, and up to 1.2 MW in the case of the brand’s Semi electric truck. It would therefore not be surprising that, given the peculiarities of the Chinese market, the company has waited until now to bring V4 Superchargers there, so it can compete head-to-head with the charging networks of other providers available in the country.
In China, charging at 500 kW is already seen as normal
At a V4 Supercharger station, thanks to these new V4 cabinets, electric vehicles can charge at a maximum power of 500 kW. This makes little sense in the European or North American markets, since there are practically no electric vehicles on sale that support such charging powers, but it is more common in the Chinese market.

Currently, Tesla operates a network of 60,000 Superchargers worldwide, of which 20 percent are located in China, amounting to around 11,500 charging points. In Shanghai, Tesla has had since 2021 a plant of more than 5,000 square meters dedicated exclusively to producing Superchargers. Until now this plant has been producing 10,000 units per year of the previous generation’s V3 Superchargers, and everything suggests it will soon begin producing the V4.
