That is how wonderful and catchy the sound of the upcoming Porsche 911 GT3 is

Porsche is pressing ahead with the development of the new 911 GT3, a variant that will continue to rely on a naturally aspirated flat-six engine.

The previous generation of the Porsche 911 set the bar very high, both with its more “restrained” versions and with the GT variants, the top-of-the-range models. After its farewell, the Stuttgart company announced the arrival of the 992, a faithful successor that is already beginning to show signs of being a worthy heir to the 991, which made such an impression. Nevertheless, every fan of the quintessential sports car is eagerly awaiting the launch of the GT3 and GT3 RS, the first of which has already been spotted running in its natural habitat, the circuits.

Already during the life cycle of the 991 911, Porsche decided to phase out naturally aspirated engines, with the exception of the GT3 and GT3 RS, which kept that prized flat-six. With the arrival of the 992, many of us feared that naturally aspirated engines would no longer be among the options, given the direction not only of the brand, but of the market as a whole.

This approach, this possibility, cast doubt on the engine that would power the GT3, the first track-focused version of the current 992. However, a video showing a test mule in one of the final stages of development confirms that the naturally aspirated engine will remain under its skin, while turbocharging will be part of the rest of the versions and of the exuberant GT2 RS.

For now, it is risky to provide reliable figures for the output of this new GT3, but we can predict certain details. From the sound alone, very similar to that of the previous generation, we can tell that it is a naturally aspirated engine, most likely the same inline six-cylinder that stirred so much passion in the 991.

If so, we would be talking about a 4.0-litre flat-six with certain modifications to make it more efficient and environmentally responsible. Given this premise, it would not be foolish to assume that total power approaches 550 CV, a figure that, in addition to being managed by a PDK dual-clutch automatic gearbox, could also be paired with a seven-speed manual gearbox.

The socio-economic context we are living through does not help in estimating launch dates, nor in getting manufacturers to confirm them precisely. As a result, it is difficult to know exactly when the new Porsche 911 GT3 will be presented, a model that will be ready to take on major rivals who have reigned unopposed during its absence. Let the war begin.
